Virtual Heart Spanish Network

The present Spanish Research Network on Cardiac Computational Modeling aims at enhancing collaboration among several spanish groups with an ample experience in the field of cardiac computational modeling. The general objective of the network is to facilitate and accelerate the development, implementation, and application of computational models in biomedical research. With this aim, one of the objectives is to share and integrate the computational tools developped by each of the member groups, and to jointly develop cardiac computational models adapted to the patient conditions, which can be used by physicians and by medical technology companies.

It is a multidisciplinar network and its members make research on the heart from different points of view: electrofisiological, biomechanical or cardiovascular, together with experts in numerical methods and high performance computation. The member groups are consolidated at the international level and the network will enhance the international impact of spanish science in the field, enabling its leader position. To achieve these objectives, several actions have been designed, which will foster joint activities, such as the participation in research projects or scientific publications, and to attract young talents. Discussion forums will be created and the contact with physicians and companies of the sector will increase through the organization of specific seminars, where clinical problems needing solution will be exposed and the opportunities of transference of knowledge will be identified. The network aims at facilitating the use of computational models in the daily clinical practice, helping in the design of more efficient and safe personalized therapies. This will have a very significant clinical and social impact.
